Sept. 17, 2001

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-McCarthy Tire Service is marking its 75th anniversary by increasing capacity at its retread shops, among other activities.

The dealership, which was started in the 1920s by Joseph T. McCarthy Sr. as All-Service Tire Co., is adding new Bandag retreading equipment at its plant in Wilkes-Barre.

"We've taken up another 4,000 to 5,000 square feet," says company Chairman & CEO Jack McCarthy.

In March, McCarthy Tire opened a new 22,000-square-foot Bandag plant in Kearneysville, W. Va.

And it has added up to 12 service trucks this so far this year.

The family-owned dealership has nine commercial-only outlets, eight combination commercial/retail outlets and two retread shops.

It employs 343 people.
