Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. (BFS) has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to assist in the rescue and rebuilding efforts.

"Our sympathies go out to all those touched by the tragic events of September 11," says an official announcement on the BFS Web site. "They are in our thoughts and prayers.

"The tireless work and courage of those involved in the rescue are a testament to the strength of this nation and its people. Their efforts are an inspiration to us all. Each and every one of our 51,000 employees is committed to helping in the rebuilding that will take place in the coming weeks and months."

BFS says it will accept monetary donations for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund at its more than 1,400 company-owned Firestone Tire & Service Centers nationwide.
