Ray Carr Tires closes

Harrisonburg, Va.-based Ray Carr Tires Inc. has ceased operations, according to a report in the Harrisonburg Daily News Record.

No other details have been made available.

Numerous Modern Tire Dealer calls to company owner Ray Carr Jr. have gone unreturned.

Ray Carr Tires had been in business for more than 40 years.

It was the 22nd largest retreader in the United States, according to MTD statistics.

As of earlier this year, the company produced more than 560 medium truck and 40 light truck retreads a day at its single, Harrisonburg retread shop using Marangoni, Hawnkinson and Associated processes.

Carr also had five commercial outlets and three combined commercial/retail outlets in four states.

At one point in the early 1990s, Ray Carr Tires boasted the largest single truck tire retread plant in the U.S. based on number of units produced per day.
