Aug. 3, 2001

Dr. Jeffrey Runge is the new administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). His nomination for the post by President George W. Bush was approved by the United States Senate earlier today.

"We congratulate Dr. Jeffery Runge on his Senate confirmation as NHTSA administrator," said Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. (BFS) in a prepared statement. "We look forward to working with Dr. Runge and the NHTSA staff on our common goal of safety for the American traveling public."

The Rubber Manufacturers Association, of which BFS is a member, backed the nomination.
