Tire Kingdom picks up expansion pace

July 28, 2001

When Tire Kingdom opens its new store in Tallahassee, Fla., next week, it will be its sixth new store in the last month. That raises Tire Kingdom's number of stores to 176 -- and counting.

According to CEO and President Orland Wolford, Tire Kingdom is concentrating on growing north from Jacksonville, Fla., all the way to Charlotte, N.C.

Tire Kingdom also has stores in Burlington, Vt., and Lebanon, N.H., after purchasing the Northern States Tire wholesale and retail chain recently.

"We've chosen the eastern seaboard as our growth area," says Wolford.

By the end of the year, Tire Kingdom will open 22 more stores, including two in Baton Rouge, La., in August, and four more in Charlotte, he adds.

Tire Kingdom, a subsidiary of TBC Corp., is the fifth largest tire store chain in North America based on store count, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.
