Fourth-place for Radar Tire's Reimers at Sturgis

Radar Tires racer Cam Reimers started from the fifth place in today’s TORC: The Off Road Championship race and refused to give up until the final lap. In the end, Reimers earned a fourth-place finish, his best finish of his 2014 season, at The Legendary Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, South Dakota.
 
Radar Tires racers competed on the hillside of Buffalo Chip’s PowerSports Complex anchor track. The teams evaluated and practiced on the surface on Monday, but Tuesday was a whole new dirt race. The great equalizer reared its ugly head – rain, which tossed in another variable to the natural terrain circuit. Due to the rain, the scheduled Crandon-style land-rush start was changed to a traditional rolling start.
 
Reimers, driver of the No. 21 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, was a man on a mission. He maintained a solid and consistent pace during the 15-minute race. Early in the race he reached the fourth position and held on to the end. So close to a podium finish, a loose air filter prevented Reimers from advancing one more position. Riding high with his finish on Tuesday and very keen on the new racing venue, Reimers expects to stand on the podium following Wednesday’s race.
 
Luke Johnson, driver of the No. 14 Project648 Motorsports Nissan Frontier PRO Light, was battling Reimers for position throughout the entire race. Nearly side-by-side for several segments of the race, Johnson lost track position due to the troublesome Turn 2 and some overly aggressive competitors. Mid-race Johnson suffered a broken oil tank line as a result of an assisted spin followed by contact to the side of the truck. Able to regain his composure and momentum, Johnson reached fifth place. On the final lap, the gremlin in Turn 2 bit Johnson again and he fell in the field. In the end, Johnson finished in ninth place.
 
Ian Harris, driver of the No. 22 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, found his aggressive side at Sturgis. The rookie driver started deep in the field and steadily picked off his competition. Looking to gain track position, Harris dove inside a competitor and that’s when trouble started. Harris overcorrected the truck which caused it to turn over. The truck was rolled back onto its Radar Renegade R5 tires and fuel began to leak causing a flash fire. Harris jumped out of the truck to safety. He was awarded a 14th place finish.
 
“I’m proud of Cam's performance today; he has certainly made improvements to his truck and his hard work is paying off!” said Gary Blalock, Radar Tires Motorsports Manager. “I’m happy that Cam is able to show his true potential. Good to see Ian is okay; it was a scary deal to be upside down and then on fire. But Ian is tough and will be back again tomorrow also. The crew will make the necessary repairs to both Cam Reimers Motorsports trucks and we’ll do it again. Luke ran strong but made a couple of uncharacteristic errors and found himself back in traffic and got drilled. Hopefully, we will be able improve tomorrow and stand on the box!”
 
Radar Tires continues to use the LT265/75R16 and 32X11.50R15 Radar Renegade R5 tires for this two-day event.
