Tonnage hauled by trucks increased 1.3% in November, "the highest since April," according to Bob Costello, chief economist for the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

"Strong factory output and housing starts helped push the index higher," he adds.

Tonnage also increased by 1.8%, year-over-year, in October 2021.

The ATA calculates tonnage based on surveys of its members.
