TIA to Hold Advanced Training Classes

April 4, 2023

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) will hold two in-person advanced training classes near the end of April.

TIA's Advanced Hands-on Earthmover Tire Service (ETS) class will take place in Brooksville, Fla., while the association's Certified Automotive Tire Service (ATS) Advanced Instructor class will be held in Detroit. Mich.

Both classes will run April 25-28.

"Targeted at earthmover tire technicians, the 200-level Advanced ETS class offers comprehensive hands-on training using a service truck, hydraulic tools and a variety of equipment that can aid technicians in servicing tires," say TIA officials.

"The training will include one day of classroom work using videos and workbooks. The remaining days will involve hands-on training."

Topics covered include service truck operation, site preparation, hydraulic tool operation , wheel and rim fastening systems and more.

Students successfully completing a final exam will receive a certificate of completion. Course tuition is $595. The tuition does not include hotel or travel.

The Certified ATS Instructor class is a 400-level certification program providing in-depth and comprehensive instruction on the recommended procedures for servicing passenger and light truck tires.

"Those who attend the four-day class and successfully complete the Certified ATS exam will be certified as Advanced ATS Instructors allowing them to train and certify ATS instructors and technicians in the field," according to TIA officials.

The class consists of 15 modules, ranging from raising the vehicle to tire and wheel assembly removal, the relationship between clamping force and torque and more.

"It also includes an exclusive module on tire conditions analysis that uses images from TIA’s Passenger and Light Truck Tire Conditions Manual to educate technicians on the most likely reasons for common irregular treadwear patterns."

Each student who successfully passes the course will receive a certificate and 13 TIA uniform patches. Recertification is required every two years via an online exam.

Course tuition is $950. The tuition does not include hotel or travel.
