Yokohama Recalls Truck Tires
Yokohama Tire Corp. is recalling 6,992 truck tires that were manufactured at the company's West Point, Miss., plant due to a defective carcass splice, which can allow air to leak into the sidewall.
If left in service, the air could cause an air bubble in the sidewall and lead to rapid air loss and possible loss of vehicle control.
The 504C tires, in size 11R22.5 were manufactured between June 27, 2022, and Dec. 4, 2022.
Yokohama determined a tire building operator made an inadequate belt cushion splice during the manufacturing process. The company has since re-trained its operators on how to use the spread cord detector, and the judgement criteria for an acceptable splice.
Yokohama will compensate dealers for the inspection and replacement of all tires subject to this recall, and the tiremaker will replace tires subject to this recall free of charge, including mounting and balancing.
All known registered customers and Yokohama dealers will receive a recall notification, along with instructions on how to identify the potentially affected tires and return and replace the tires.
The company plans to notify dealers of the recall from Sept. 18-Oct. 2, and then notify owners beginning Oct. 2-Oct. 16.
