What are some other tires that ag tire dealers should offer in addition to traditional farm tires and why?
Many tire dealers are located in the country and have to sell other tires that just ag tires, according to Dave Paulk, manager, field technical services, BKT USA Inc.
“Light truck tires are a must as all their customers have at least one pickup and other vehicles that may use these.” Others include:
- Passenger car tires since “most have families with multiple cars.”
- TBR tires (medium truck) “are a must to sell. Many farmers have their own trucks for hauling grain, etc. Often, there are trucking accounts located in their area that cater to the farmers hauling grain, milk, fertilizer and livestock,” says Paulk.
- ATV tires since “many farms and ranches have at least one four- wheeler or side-by-side to help with everyday chores.
- Lawn and garden tires “used for lawnmowers (riding and pushed) and sometimes used on small farm equipment.”
- OTR tires since “many farms and dairies have at least one loader that use these tires. The 20.5R25 is the most popular size but can go up to 29.5R25. The smaller sizes can be mounted with a miniboom.”
- Skid steer tires as many farms and dairies, "have at least one skid steer that can perform multiple tasks, such as moving fertilizer and chemicals and cleaning out barns. There can be application-specific tires.”
- Telehandler tires since “some cattle farms and dairies have telehandlers to stack and unstack hay for feed.
“In areas where forestry is big with agriculture, forestry tires may be sold as well. With some of these, the dealer needs a boom truck.”
