Bauer Built Earns Child Advocacy Award

April 24, 2019

Bauer Built Inc. was recently presented with the Bert Grover Child Advocacy Award from the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA).

The award is given annually to a business that exemplifies the high ideals of Bert Grover, an educator, politician and former superintendent of the Wisconsin Department of Public Information, in regards to advocating and providing support for the youth in the state.

Bauer Built has operated by this ideal not only in Durand, where they are headquartered, but also the other communities where it does business, says WASDA.

Durand-Arkansaw District Administrator Greg Doverspike wrote in his nomination letter: “There are few if any events in the community that Bauer Built does not contribute towards. This started with the founders Sam and Ethel Bauer, continued on with Jerry and Sue Bauer, and has continued on with Tad and Jodi Bauer and Mandi and Chad Smith. On behalf of the district, the community, and the many generations to come we thank you for all that you do. This community would truly struggle without your presence.”

Mandi Smith, Bauer Built’s director of marketing/corporate secretary, Jerry and Sue’s daughter and granddaughter of founders Sam and Ethel, said when accepting the award on behalf of the company:  “We would like to thank the Bert Grover Child Advocacy Committee for this honor and thank Greg Doverspike for the nomination. We were very surprised by this. Bauer Built has always felt that it is important to give back to our communities, we have been doing so as long as I can remember. So again, thank you for the honor.”

The award ceremony was part of the Spring Superintendent’s Conference held at the Concourse Hotel in Madison, Wis.

On April 1, 2019, Bauer Built bought one retread plant and seven commercial stores from Allied Oil & Tire Co., making it the 9th largest U.S. retreader, according to Modern Tire Dealer. See the list of the top 100 retreaders here.
