Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling 4,045 Roadmaster truck tires due to potential sidewall failure caused by a too-thin innerliner gauge.
The Roadmaster RM852 tires, in size 295/75R22.5, were produced from Nov. 18, 2018, to Dec. 8, 2018, and bear the date codes 4618 through 4818.
Cooper discovered the problem after an analysis of warranty data for the subject tires in the second quarter of 2019 showed an increased rate of return. A search of internal inventories found 53 of the subject tires, and the company determined that all of the affected tires were manufactured on the same tire building machine following a routine change of the drum and bladder. The machine issue led to intermittent expansion issues resulting in thing innerline gauge in certain tires.
Of the 4,045 tires the company is recalling, Cooper estimates 1% of these tires have the defective innerliner.
Cooper has notified owners and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the tires free of charge. The recall began Aug. 30, 2019.
