BATO renews sponsorship of NHL awards

March 9, 2010

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC (BATO) reports the Bridgestone brand will begin its second year as the presenting sponsor of the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award.

The Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award Presented by Bridgestone recognizes a National Hockey League (NHL) player who has demonstrated superior leadership in hockey and has made positive contributions to society. The award honors an individual who leads by positive example through on-ice performance, motivation of team members and a dedication to community activities and charitable causes. Last year’s winner was Jarome Iginla.

In addition, the Bridgestone Brand is entering its second year as sponsor of the Bridgestone Mark Messier Youth Leadership Award, a recognition intended to encourage leadership and community spirit and to reward youth hockey players or mentor/coaches for their contributions to youth sports or education.

The Bridgestone Mark Messier Youth Leadership Award will go to the United States or Canadian resident involved in amateur hockey judged to have overcome adversity in achieving his or her goal or dream; promoted community service by promoting youth sports or excellence in academics for athletes; or who has enabled underprivileged kids to participate in hockey.

The award is also open to individuals who have served as mentors or coaches and who, through their involvement over the years in amateur hockey, have made a significant difference in the lives of kids. Those who will be considered include individuals who have served roles such as coach, league administrator, or sponsor, or who have participated in game officiating, timing and scoring, etc.

“Whether it’s on the road, on the ice or at the rink, leadership can take many forms,” says Phil Pacsi, Vice President N.A. Consumer Tire Marketing, BATO. “We are delighted to align another NHL marketing platform to the Bridgestone brand with Mark Messier, who set the standard for leadership on the ice and off. Mark also uniquely enables the Bridgestone brand to promote and reward community leadership throughout North America.”
