Continental Tire the Americas LLC has expanded its General Tire winter lineup with the AltiMAX Arctic X for passenger cars and crossovers and the Grabber Arctic X for light trucks and SUVs.

Both studdable tires became available Aug. 1 and carry the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol, indicating that they meet industry requirements for severe snow service.

The General AltiMAX Arctic X is available in 15-inch through 20-inch rim diameters, while the General Grabber Arctic X is offered in 16-inch through 22-inch rim diameters. The size ranges give tire dealers coverage across a broad mix of passenger vehicle, crossover, SUV and light truck applications.

Continental says both tires are engineered to provide traction, braking and handling on snow-covered, icy and wet winter roads.

The AltiMAX Arctic X is designed to deliver snow and ice traction, wet braking and responsive handling in cold temperatures.

Continental says internal testing of the AltiMAX Arctic X in size 205/55R16 showed better snow and ice traction than the Firestone Winterforce 2, Cooper Evolution Winter and Toyo Observe G3-Ice. The company notes that on-road results may vary.

The Grabber Arctic X features Continental’s Duragen Technology, which is designed to provide strength and durability for light truck and SUV applications. The tire also is engineered to deliver braking and stability on snow- and ice-covered roads.
