Yokohama Tire Corp. announced its driver, Kristin Matlock, beat her husband, Wayne Matlock by 1.46 seconds at the National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) Mexican 1000 to win the UTV class and finish third overall.

Kristin became the first woman ever to win the UTV class at the Mexican 1000. Her winning time was 18:05.00 compared to Waynes of 18:06.46 - Wayne finished second in UTV and fourth overall.

Both Kristin and Wayne competed on Geloandar SD tires from Yokohama.

“The super-competitive Matlock battle was the highlight of this year’s race,” says Patricia Wall, motorsport manager, Yokohama.

“They were seconds apart after each stage, but Kristen just beat out Wayne at the finish to secure first place. This is a major feat for Kristin and a UTV as she also competed against Unlimited Trucks and Unlimited Buggies, as well as 171 other racers.”

“The Mexican 1000 is one of my favorite races, so to win here, in such a dramatic fashion – and over my husband – was fantastic,” says Kristin Matlock.

“The durable Yokohama Geolandar SDs proved once again they are the best UTV tires around.”

Yokohama was the title sponsor of the NORRA Mexican 1000 for the seventh consecutive year.

Other notable finishers on Yokohama tires included Eli Yee Jr., first in Evolution class 10 on Geolandar SD; Perry McNeil, first in evolutionary heavy metal and winner of ‘Yokohama Spirit of Baja’ on Geolandar M/T-R; Jim Greenway, first in legend buggies on Geolandar SD; Boyd Jaynes, first in pioneer 4X4 on Geolandar M/T G003; Andrea Tomba, third in vintage open trucks on Geolandar M/T G003; and Larry Trim, first in vintage short wheelbase 4X4 on Geolandar M/T G003.
