Hankook’s iON Race Tested at Formula E
Drivers put the Hankook iON Race to the test during Formula E’s highest-altitude race at the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season 12 finale in Mexico City.
As the championship’s official tire partner, Hankook’s iON Race features predictable warm-up characteristics and enhanced grip, which “enabled drivers to push confidently across both fast and technical sectors," Hankook officials say. "As conditions evolved, the iON Race maintained a steady contact footprint and effective thermal control, supporting strategic flexibility without compromising balance."
The track, located at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and over 7,200 feet above sea level, demanded strong energy efficiency, cooling performance and tire thermal management due to high-speed straights and tough braking zones.
“Mexico City once again proved how decisive stable tire behavior is at high altitude,” says Manfred Sandbichler, senior director of Hankook Motorsport. “Across a race that demanded constant adaptation, the iON Race delivered the confidence and consistency teams needed to manage energy, temperature and balance under challenging conditions.”
During Formula E’s 150th race, Nick Cassidy secured Citroën’s maiden victory, ahead of Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra Racing) and Oliver Rowland (Nissan).
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s third round of season 12 moves on to the Miami E-Prix on Jan. 31. The race will take place at the Miami International Autodrome.
