Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT) announced it will invest nearly $17 million in its Aiken County, S.C., plant in order to produce 20-inch tires there. The factory recently built its 50 millionth tire.
BFNT will add a mixer to the facility and will modify five tire building machines. The new mixer will enable the Aiken County plant to supply other BFNT facilities with rubber stock.
To date, BFNT has invested more than $470 million in the factory, which opened in 1999 and can make 25,000 passenger and light truck tires per day at full capacity, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.
