Michelin will sell branded products -- but not tires -- at 'Michelin on Main'

March 8, 2007

Michelin North America Inc. will soon open its first Michelin on Main retail store in the United States. The company says the store, located in Greenville, S.C., will offer Michelin-branded "mobility and lifestyle products," but not tires.

Located in the RiverPlace development in Greenville on the corner of Main St. and Camperdown Way, the store also will double as a museum of sorts, offering "opportunities to learn more about the company, its tire products and services, and its mobility heritage," according to the company.

Michelin's first retail store in North America is slated to open this summer. It will sell Michelin products such as maps and guides, jackets and hats. For tires, consumers will be able to inquire about the tires best suited for their vehicles, and they will be promptly referred to local Michelin dealers to complete the purchase.

"Our primary goal with Michelin on Main is to help us connect even more closely with the community, Michelin families and our consumers," says Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America.

"With more than 8,000 employees in South Carolina and our headquarters in Greenville, Michelin has been a fixture in the Palmetto State for more than 30 years. With this public space in the exceptionally vital and growing downtown, we now will be able to interact with our community and with visitors to Greenville in a direct, meaningful way."

Michelin sells branded merchandise to consumers in other places where Michelin has a significant presence, such as Paris, France, and near Michelin Groupe headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Michelin on Main also will host special events, which could include field trips for students, space for mobility and sustainability exhibitions and Michelin receptions. Its modular construction will allow for quick and flexible configuration to support a variety of Michelin community events.
