Toyo plans to boost production in White, Ga.

May 24, 2007

Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. will boost the production capacity of its Toyo Tire North America Inc. plant in White, Ga., in an effort to increase its sales of 16- to 24-inch ultra-high performance tires.

The capacity increase also will help Toyo "meet anticipated future demand from local auto manufacturers for original equipment tires," according to Toyo officials.

Toyo plans to invest six billion yen in the facility, which began production of passenger and light truck tires in March 2006.

The plant uses Toyo's A.T.O.M. (Advanced Tire Operation Module) manufacturing system, which allows for multi-product, small-lot manufacturing using less space.

The factory's A.T.O.M. system "will be upgraded as part of the announced capacity expansion so as to help achieve higher product quality while boosting output to the target of about 3.3 million units per year by 2009."
