Ken Rice presented with entrepreneur award

The Entrepreneur Council of Frederick County in Frederick, Md., has presented Ken Rice, CEO of the Donald B. Rice Tire Co., with a Small Emerging Business award.

The awards are given out once a year to honor outstanding entrepreneurs, according to Jim Merkel, the council's founder and a board member.

Ken Rice's father, Donald, started the business in 1929, and Ken took over as CEO in 1975. Today, Ken's son, Ken Rice III, and his son-in-law, Chris Chase, run the company.

Donald B. Rice Tire Co. has stores in Gainseville, Harrisonburg and Stephens City, Md., and last year purchased the Rosson & Troilo Motor Co. of Brandy Station, Va.
