Pep Boys: 'Tires drove store traffic'

Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack's tire promotions, including a "buy-three-get-one-free" sale, drove traffic to Pep Boy stores during the second quarter, say officials from the Philadelphia. Pa.-based chain.

During a conference call held earlier today, Pep Boys executives told analysts that the chain's service business, which includes tires, enjoyed growth of more than 4% during the quarter.

They added that Pep Boys has a number of "test programs" underway, including "continued focus... on on-going tire promotions."
