Mavis Tire Supply Corp., which does business as Mavis Discount Tire, has acquired Somerset Tire Service Inc. (STS), one of the largest tire retail chains in the U.S with 157 stores. The purchase brings Mavis’ store count to 324 outlets.
Based in Bridgewater, N.J., STS has 95 stores in New Jersey, 33 in Pennsylvania and 29 in New York. It also has six wholesale locations operated as "Banner Tire."
"We've always had tremendous respect for STS. They've been our competitor for more than three decades and we admire their commitment to providing great customer service," says David Sorbaro, Mavis' co-chief executive officer.
"We are very excited to welcome the STS team into the Mavis family and look forward to building on their great reputation to enhance a best-in-class tire retailer. Together, we will have 324 stores, nine wholesale locations and approximately 2,800 employees and we expect to grow all three areas significantly over the next several years."
The purchase is a natural fit for the STS business, according to STS Vice President of Sales and Marketing Pat Schulte.

Before the purchase, Mavis ranked No. 5 and STS ranked No. 6 on the Modern Tire Dealer 100 list of top independent tire dealers in the U.S. Mavis remains in the No. 5 spot with 324 stores. Les Schwab Tire Centers Inc. is No. 4 with 389 stores.
