Bill Williams, president and owner of Jack Williams Tire, has been named chairman of American Car Care Centers (ACCC).
He replaces Claude Case, former president of Phoenix-Ariz.-based Charlie Case Tire Co. Case served three consecutive terms beginning in 1997. Although the ACCC charter calls for a new chairman to be elected by the membership every two years, ACCC members elected Case to a third term in Jan. 2002.
(Charlie Case Tire was acquired by and merged with AM-PAC Tire Distributors Inc. in October of 2001. AM-PAC, a business unit of Itochu International, is an ACCC member.)
Williams started working for his father, Jack, in his early teens. He has helped grow the retail side of Jack Williams Tire, based in Moosic, Pa., to 20 stores; the company's wholesale division includes 23 ACCC members.
"We've been part of the ACCC program since 1994," says Williams. "We joined because there was a commitment to the independent dealer, and ACCC gave us a better plateau to compete with the larger retail chains."
Williams says he plans to continue to strengthen the program, ask the membership for a re-commitment to the core objectives of ACCC, and help the group "be in a better position to compete in an industry that is evolving very rapidly."
American Car Care Centers, based in Memphis Tenn., has 18 "member distributors" and represents 1,079 independent dealer locations in 45 states.
