Falken Tire brings strong competitors for King of the Hammers

Feb. 5, 2014

For its third year of participation at the increasingly popular King of the Hammers (KOH) off-road racing events, Falken Tire, the manufacturer of high performance on- and off-road tires, will be supporting more than 24 vehicles competing in all five classes – Ultra4, Every Man Challenge (EMC) Mod, EMC Stock, Legends and Spec Class. Teams will be running both Falken’s WildPeak AT and new MT tires.

“This is the first time Falken has had such a formidable presence at KOH,” stated Nick Fousekis, Falken’s Director of Motorsports Marketing.  “We’ve sponsored a smaller number of teams in the past, including last year’s winner of the Every Man Challenge, Savvy Off Road, but this year, we really expanded our effort, as many teams sought us out to help provide that edge they needed in off-road performance.”

Savvy Off Road will race its new EMC race car, dubbed the “JK-R,” in the EMC Mod class where they are back-to-back defending champions. The team will run Falken’s new 37-inch WildPeak MT – a 37x12.50R17 tire.

“In the Mod Class, Legends Class and Spec Class, teams will run the new Falken WildPeak MT, while Ultra4 Class entries will have a new competition spec, the WildPeak MT 38X13.50R17 tire,” said Nestor Cabrera, Falken’s Off-Road Supervisor.

“Falken also will be competing with the race-proven and very capable WildPeak AT in the Stock class,” he added. “Teams will run a 35-inch custom-grooved all-terrain tire in this class.”

Held every year in Johnson Valley, CA, the King of the Hammers course combines high speed desert racing with intense rock crawling to create an extremely challenging race event.  Both Spec (4700) and Legends (4800) are new classes for 2014, and Falken will partner with TV personality and driver Jessi Combs – “the fastest woman on four wheels” – in the Spec class.  The Legends entries are older 4400 Ultra4 vehicles which now have a class of their own, adding to the total number of entries for the multiple events.
