Hankook Tire's Chris Forsberg gets podium finish at Miami Heat

June 2, 2014

Hankook Tire driver Chris Forsberg was on the winner’s podium once again this past weekend scoring a second place finish at Formula Drift Round 3: Miami Heat.  Forsberg’s second place finish is his third podium of the 2014 season, having scored a first place win at the opening round in Long Beach, California and a third place finish at round two in Atlanta, Georgia.

The racing, held at Homestead-Miami Speedway, was intense all weekend beginning with qualifying on Friday and competition on Saturday.  Drivers had the additional challenge of learning a new track as this was the first time the Formula Drift series has raced at HMS.

Forsberg and his Hankook Tire/CFR Nissan 370Z were in top shape all weekend, quickly progressing from the Top 32 to the finals Saturday afternoon.  The final matchup saw Forsberg compete head-to-head against Vaughn Gittin Jr. in his Monster Energy Ford Mustang.  Racing was close and when it was over Forsberg had secured as second place podium finish, keeping him in first place in the 2014 Formula Drift Championship points standings.

“I am very proud of our second place finish at Formula Drift Miami but we always want more. I couldn't be happier with the efforts from my CFR crew and my Hankook Tire Nissan 370Z,” said Forsberg.  “We had the grip we needed to dial our car in faster than the competition by earning the number one qualifying position as well. To start off the season with 3 podium finishes in a row is an amazing accomplishment and puts us in a great position as we chase down our second championship!”

Additionally, Hankook Tire driver Carl Rydquist scored a third place podium finish this weekend as part of the Formula Drift series’ first Pro 2 event of the 2014 season.

All of Hankook’s Formula Drift drivers race on Hankook’s Ventus RS-3 Extreme Performance tire.  The Ventus R-S3 is designed for serious sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan enthusiasts looking for race tire-like traction on the street or for use in autocross, drifting or track events.

“Chris, Carl and their teams did a great job this weekend.  A second place finish for Chris, his third podium of the year, and a third place podium for Carl at the first Pro 2 event of the season are great results,” said Paul Jho, Hankook Motorsports Manager.  “Chris’ podium this weekend keeps him in the lead in the championship points standings as well as Hankook Tire in the 2014 Formula Drift Tire Manufacturer Cup championship standings. We have had a great start to the season, but it’s not over yet.  Next up, New Jersey!”

Formula Drift heads to Wall, New Jersey next for Round 4: The Gauntlet at Wall Speedway on June 20th and 21st, the series’ final round on the East Coast.
