Showing proof that it is an ultra-high performance tire for serious driving enthusiasts, Dunlop’s Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec has been dominant in early-season SCCA competition, including a pair of winners at the 2010 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour event in San Diego, CA.
Winning the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) competition April 9-12 in the Street Touring Ultra (STU) Class was racer Richard Jung, of Laguna Niguel, CA, who also won the 2009 and 2008 El Toro ProSolo events in SCCA competition. Jung, in his Dunlop-equipped Mitsubishi Evo, bested the field again this year.
Taking the accomplishment of the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs even higher, Jung was joined in the STU class by other Dunlop-equipped racers, who grabbed 11 of the top 13 finishing places, including runner-up Clint Child of Glendale, AZ.
The following week, competitors took the Star Specs into battle at the El Toro Tire Rack ProSolo series opening event in Irvine, CA, with Child taking first place, and Jung as runner-up in the STU class.
In the SCCA Street Touring R class in San Diego, Jeffrey Cawthorne grabbed first place in his Mazda MX-5, equipped with Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires. Four other Dunlop competitors finished in the top 10 in the Street Touring R class.
According to Jonathan Lee, Dunlop brand general manager, “The Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec features the Star Spec tread compound, which helps a performance car’s initial dry grip during sanctioned amateur driving events, such as autocross and high-performance track events hosted by regional car clubs. The tire has been a key component in the success of enthusiasts such as Richard Jung, Clint Child and Jeffrey Cawthorne. This is further proof that Star Specs are among the best ultra-high performance tires an enthusiast can buy.”
Dunlop is also a key supplier to sport compact enthusiasts featuring “tuner” tire sizes and race series sponsorships. For more on Dunlop performance tires, go to www.dunloptires.com.
