Titan anticipates new contract for Goodyear ag plant

Oct. 17, 2005

Titan International Inc. expects to have a contract with the United Steelworkers covering Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s Freeport, Ill., plant by the end of the month. Titan must first forge a new contract with the union before it can buy Goodyear's farm tire operation.

"We expect the union to vote on (a contract) before Nov. 1," a Titan spokesperson told moderntiredealer.com earlier today. (The most recent deadline was Sept. 1, itself a push-back.)

Earlier this year, Goodyear announced its intention to sell its farm tire division to Titan for $100 million.

The deal would give Titan control of the Freeport factory. It also gives Titan the licensing to produce and sell Goodyear brand farm tires in North America.
