Aug. 23, 2004

A fire broke out in the mixing area of Bridgestone Corp.´s Amagi, Japan, plant last Friday, but was quickly extinguished.

Thirteen people, including Bridgestone sub-contractors, were sent to the hospital as a result, according to Bridgestone officials.

"The cause of fire is still under investigation."

The blaze marks the second time a fire has broken out at a Bridgestone plant within 12 months. Last September, the company´s Tochigi factory experienced a fire in its mixing area.

Bridgestone officials have not said if the Amagi fire will affect production.
