NHTSA denial "puts to rest" Steeltex questions, says BFNT

Sept. 30, 2004

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration´s denial of petitions to further investigate Firestone Steeltex tires "puts to rest any and all questions that have been raised" about the products, according to Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT) officials.

The petitions were filed by California law firm Lisoni & Lisoni, who wanted NHTSA to investigate all Steeltex tires built since 1995 and all Steeltex tires used on ambulances.

"It´s unfortunate that Mr. Lisoni´s desire for personal financial gain has resulted in his filing these two frivolous petitions that have once again proven to be a waste of time and resources," say BFNT officials. "This is clearly an egregious case of abuse of the system."

NHTSA´s analysis of available Steeltex data "does not indicate that the tires contain a defect condition and certainly do not support the petitioner´s claims."
