SEMA, PRE-SHOW: Vredestein introduces Wintrac Xtreme

Nov. 1, 2004

Now available from Vredestein Tyres North America is the Wintrac Xtreme winter tire with a W-shaped tread designed in conjunction with the Italian industrial design office of Giorgetto Giugiaro.

The Giugiaro design combines winter driving elements with a visually appealing look for an aggressive, powerful appearance, the company says.

The Wintrac Xtreme has sipes of varying depth, width, shape and placement to ensure maximum grip on snow and optimum driving performance. The company´s Optimum Silica Processing (OSP) technology is used in the tread compound for improved grip on wet surfaces. A directional tread prevents aquaplaning.

The tire also is designed to offer a quiet ride and is available 13 16-, 17- and 18-inch sizes in V- and W-speed ratings.

Also available from the company is the Sportrac W high performance tire.

This Giugiaro-designed tire has a spiral-wound capstrip fitted to the belts to ensure it retains its shape at extremely high speeds for enhanced safety. All tires 55-series and below are fitted with a rim protector, the company notes.

The Sportrac W comes in 12 sizes and offers extra grip on wet roads and low rolling resistance.

Also added to the high-end sector is the Ultrac Y 19-inch tire with a Y speed rating.

While retaining the style and quality of previous Ultrac tires, the Ultrac Y has a belt width 5 mm wider than previous Ultrac tires and a tread composition enhanced for road handling ability. A special cap ply has been added that, in combination with the steel wire, prevents deforming at very high speeds. The new tread mix includes an improved Full Silica Silan Solution, the company adds.

The Ultrac Y is now available in three 19-inch sizes.
