Store count isn't the only thing at Discount Tire Co. Inc. that's on the rise. The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based chain's sales also are increasing, having reached the $2.6 billion mark in 2007, an all-time high for the company.

Discount Tire's sales in 2006 were $2.3 billion. (The company first surpassed the $1.5 billion mark approximately six years ago, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.)

Discount Tire, the country's largest independent tire store chain, recently opened its 700th store, a retail outlet in Waxahachie, Texas.

The chain sells its own Arizonian brand, plus Goodyear, Dunlop, BFGoodrich, Michelin, Uniroyal, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Continental and other consumer tire brands.
