An ultra-high performance tire from Continental AG, the ContiSportContact Vmax, recently reached a speed of 254 miles per hour (or 409 kilometers per hour) on a Porsche GT9.
The speed was reached on the Papenburg test circuit in Germany.
"This is the first time that the ContiSportContact Vmax has exceeded the 400 kilometer per hour mark," say Continental officials.
"Its previous record was set just under a year ago when (a) Bimoto Audi TT clocked a speed of 393 kilometers per hour, also in Papenburg."
The ContiSportContact Vmax has undergone further development "to achieve substantially enhanced high-speed characteristics," they add.
