Discount Tire expands in Nevada

Dec. 3, 2008
Discount Tire Co. Inc., the country's largest independent retail tire store chain, has opened a new store in Reno, Nev., and is building another outlet in Sparks, Nev.

Discount Tire has big expansion plans for Nevada, says Gregg Olewinski, vice president of the company's Nevada Region.

The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based chain has 20 stores in the state, 19 of them in Las Vegas.

As a market, Reno has a lot of potential, he explains. "We've had a lot of customers who have said, 'You need stores in Reno!' It's a market we've been thinking about for at least seven years. We thought it was time" to put a store there. (The four-bay outlet is a former Tire Pros location.)

The Sparks store is currently under construction, according to Olewinski. When done, it will span 7,000 square feet and will contain six bays.

Discount Tire is "in negotiations for another location in Sparks. We also have four pieces of property in escrow in Vegas."

In all, Discount Tire has more than 700 locations throughout the country. The company achieved record sales of $2.6 billion last year.
