Porsche prepares for charity race with Continental tires

Oct. 10, 2001

When three 2001 Porsche 911 Turbos begin their 50-state Drive for Hope charity event in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Oct. 17, they will be traveling on Continental tires.

Continental Tire North America Inc. has donated six sets of ContiSport Contact 2 tires for use on the all-wheel-drive vehicles. Continental and Pirelli are the only original equipment tires approved on the 911 Turbo.

The front tires are sized 225/40ZR18, while the back are sized 295/30ZR18.

The Porsche 50-State Drive for Hope, hosted by Porsche Cars North America, benefits the Hope Foundation and its cancer research.

After the first leg of the nine-day, around-the-clock trip is completed, the Porsche 911 Turbos will be loaded onto a cargo jet and transported to Los Angeles, Calif. The event will stop in Charlotte, N.C., along the way; Continental Tire is headquartered in Charlotte.

Ten exclusive sponsors each will donate $1 per mile for charity. Also, Yahoo! is holding a charity auction that began Oct. 8 (http:auctions.yahoo.com).

Eighty percent of all proceeds will go to the Hope Foundation; 20% will be donated to the New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund.
