Cheng Shin Rubber, which does business as Maxxis International, has bought 72 acres of land in Thailand to build a tire manufacturing plant.
The factory will open a year-and-a-half from now, according to Greg Rauth, national sales manager for Maxxis' automotive division.
It will produce 12,500 radial passenger and light truck tires a day, he says.
Cheng Shin has three plants in China (two of them are joint ventures with Toyo Tire & Rubber) and a couple of plants in Taiwan.
