American Tire Distributors holds charity event

Oct. 14, 2002

American Tire Distributors' 13th annual charity golf outing raised more than $40,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Ada Jenkins Center.

More than 100 golfers, plus employees, customers and suppliers of American Tire Distributors, combined to make the benefit a success, according to the company. The event was held at the Birkdale Golf Club near Charlotte, N.C.

In 2001, American Tire Distributors, formerly Heafner Tire Group Inc., raised more than $45,000 for charity. Part of the money was donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in New York and Washington, D.C., in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Since the inception of the golf benefit, the company has raised more than $250,000 for charity.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the world’s leading funder of diabetes research and education. The Ada Jenkins Center offers after-school care, tutorial services, adult learning programs and crisis assistance services to residents in two counties surrounding Charlotte.
