The jury in the Boston, Mass., rollover case of Lane vs. Michelin Tire North America Inc. ruled in favor of Michelin.
The case stemmed from a 1994 accident in which a van driven by Richard Lane went out of control and rolled over. Lane's lower body was paralyzed.
Plaintiff's attorneys contended that the accident was caused by a defective Uniroyal Laredo tire. The jury disagreed.
"If you analyze the technical and forensic evidence in this case, you conclude the tire was well-built and built as designed," said Richard Hines, one of Michelin's defense lawyers. "The jury accepted the evidence in this case."
"We sympathize with Mr. Lane's situation," said a Michelin spokeswoman. "This verdict is about the jury's response to the facts as presented."
