Monro posts record sales, income

June 2, 2009

Monro Muffler Brake Inc. posted net sales of $476.1 million on net income of $24.1 million for its fiscal 2009 year, both records for the company.

Those results compare to net sales of $439.4 million on net income of $21.9 million achieved during the dealership's previous fiscal year.

Comparable store sales during fiscal 2009 increased 6.7% over previous-year levels, marking the eighth consecutive year of comparable store sales increases for Monro.

"Based on current visibility and business and economic trends, the company continues to anticipate fiscal 2010 comparable store sales growth in the range of 4% to 7%," say Monro officials.

Robert Gross, Monro's chairman and CEO, says the company is "encouraged by... continuing momentum and (is) optimistic about the future prospects of our business, particularly as macro trends in the automotive sector work to our advantage and consumer confidence begins to improve slightly."
