Epicor: Techs set record for using software

Epicor Software Corp. says the average number of mechanical repair estimates generated each month through its Web-based estimating software has surpassed 430,000, an all-time high.

The Epicor Integrated Service Estimator (ISE) tool is designed to help tire dealers, oil and lube businesses and other vehicle service specialists dramatically increase sales of mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance services. The company says Epicor ISE can be integrated with a wide range of service chain point of sale (POS) systems.

“Epicor ISE provides the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals for nearly any vehicle, so we can easily help the customer identify any additional work that should be done so they can schedule and budget for it,” says Forry Hargitt, director of operations and training for Tire Discounters Inc., a chain of nearly 100 tire stores throughout the Midwestern U.S.

“Epicor ISE is absolutely helping us be more successful in serving our customers. Above all, it makes our people more productive -- when I can complete a repair estimate in three minutes instead of 10, that’s a huge value to me,” says Hargitt.

Epicor says its estimating software enables users to quickly capture all of the parts and labor information needed to estimate and complete virtually any common automotive repair. The software provides one-click access to the the company’s PartExpert database of more than 10.7 million parts and in excess of 7,800 manufacturer product lines, along with local availability and pricing.

The software provides access to OE-recommended service intervals, an aftermarket flat-rate labor guide, repair jobs database, parts interchange, and VIN decoder. All parts, labor and supplier pricing information can automatically be uploaded to estimates, work orders and invoices generated by the user’s POS system, according to Epicor.

“I have guys who can do a $1,000 estimate in a few minutes; it’s just incredible,” says Jay Wocelka, corporate retail/marketing manager for Pomp’s Tire Service Inc., a Green Bay, Wis.-based chain of 80 tire stores. “I can’t imagine going back to the old way of doing things.”
