Tire dealers remain top distribution channel

Jan. 20, 2010

Independent tire dealers remain the dominant passenger tire distribution channel in the United States with approximately 60% of the market, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2010 Facts Issue.

"When you take wholesaling into account, independent tire dealers have an even greater share -- 75% -- because they are the main suppliers to car dealer franchisees and service stations," writes MTD Editor Bob Ulrich.

Coming in second place are mass merchandisers, who command 14.5% of passenger tire retail market share in the U.S. Next up are warehouse clubs with 9.5%, followed by tire company-owned stores (7%), auto dealerships (5.5%), service stations (2%), and finally, miscellaneous outlets (1.5%).
