EPA honors 'Get the Lead Out' program

March 25, 2010

Bridgestone Americas Inc. has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the tiremaker's "Get the Lead Out" program at its company-owned stores.

In late 2007, Bridgestone -- which operates nearly 2,200 company outlets -- began to move away from lead wheel weights. "Since that time, the company has removed nearly 3.5 million pounds of lead from the stream of commerce," say Bridgestone officials.

The EPA also has honored Bridgestone's Firestone Racing program for its use of non-lead weights.
