Don Dominguez: from New Jersey to Florida

Tire industry veteran Donald (Amadeo) Dominguez died last week at the age of 78. Modern Tire Dealer reported on his passing on May 25, 2012, and promised more information about our dear friend.

Here are excerpts from his obituary, courtesy of the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Clearwater, Fla.

Dominguez was born in Carteret, N.J., and died at 78 in Safety Harbor, Fla. He came to Clearwater in the early 1980's to make it his permanent home. He graduated from Carteret High School, and went into the Air Force, where he worked in cryptography and later in command headquarters with the air inspector general's office.

His first job in the tire industry was with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron, Ohio, as a direct factory representative. He was then hired as a consultant to Crown Tire Co. in Port Monmouth, N.J., to oversee national account sales.

He then went on to become national sales manager of Mohawk Rubber Co. Next stop on his career path was to serve as executive director of the Sonic Group and then as executive director of the $2 billion Private Brand Tire Group.

Most recently, up untill 2009, he acted as agent for Mitas Co. in Prague, Czech Republic.

Dominguez is survived by three sisters, Linda (David) Small of Edgewood, N.M., Marilyn (Ellis) King of Farmington, N.M., and Rose (William, deceased) O'Rourke of Albuquerque, N.M., and Carteret; and one sister-in-law, Pat Dominguez of Brick, N.J.
