Gasoline and diesel fuel prices were relatively stable throughout 2009. What will 2010 bring?
Gas prices started out the year at a below $2 a gallon, at an average of $1.78 in January, according to the "U.S. Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Prices" charts included in Modern Tire Dealer's Monday Hotwire e-newsletters. That is down $1.29 from the year prior. Diesel fuel started the year at $2.31 a gallon, down $1.01 from the previous January.
By the start of the second quarter, gas prices had risen to $2.04, and diesel was $2.22 a gallon (still a whopping $1.73 less than April 2008).
By the third quarter, gas prices had risen to $2.61 a gallon, and diesel was $2.59. The start of the fourth quarter saw gas prices at $2.47 a gallon, and diesel at $2.58.
The last Monday Hotwire for 2009 recorded gas prices at $2.60 a gallon and diesel at $2.73.
