Stuart Schuette, who has served as CEO of American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) since 2016, has left the company this week. The wholesale tire distributor has appointed Michael Feder as interim CEO.

Feder is leading ATD and its wholly owned subsidiaries "and is focused on driving the company's strategy and transformation to grow the business and help its customers, partners and communities thrive and drive into the future," according to his biography published on the company's website.

Feder joins ATD after serving as managing director at AlixPartners for 20-plus years. He's worked across "several industry sectors" and has experience serving as interim CEO, advisor and a C-level executive for other companies. AlixPartners LLP served as an operational advisor to ATD during its bankruptcy reorgnization in 2018.

Schuette replaced William "Bill" Berry as CEO in January 2016 following Berry's retirement. Schuette joined the tire industry after a 20-year career at U.S. Foods Inc., and most recently serving as chief operating officer. At the time the company was the second largest food service distribution company in America.

ATD tells Modern Tire Dealer that Schuette "has resigned to pursue a new opportunity outside of the industry.

"We are deeply appreciative of Stuart's leadership, marked by his empathy for our associates and customers. Stuart is a visionary and guided ATD through an ongoing business transformation with passion and dedication. We wish Stuart and his family every success in all future endeavors."

ATD says it looks forward to Feder's "partnership with the current executive leadership team as we continue to drive ATD into the future."
