Nokian Ramps Up Manufacturing Capacity

May 11, 2023

Nokian Tyres plc intends to achieve global tire manufacturing capacity of 15 million tires per year by 2027.

The company is in the process of ramping up annual production capacity at its Dayton, Tenn., plant to four million units by next year.

And it recently broke ground on a new plant in Romania that will have an annual capacity of six million tires when up and running, "with expansion potential in the future," according to Nokian officials.

The plant in Romania will produce large-diameter passenger and SUV tires that will be primarily sold in central Europe.

The facility also will house a distribution center.

“This investment is a significant strategic step enabling our future growth and development," says Jukka Moisio, president and CEO of Nokian. "A world-class manufacturing facility in Europe is a key step in getting additional capacity and creating a balanced manufacturing platform as we build the new Nokian Tyres."

Nokian also has a plant in its native country, Finland.
