Pirelli & Cie SpA has developed a tailor-made version of its P Zero tire for the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N electric vehicle (EV).
Two years in the making, the tire contains Pirelli’s Elect technology, which has been designed for EVs and plug-in hybrids.
Elect technology incorporates a reinforced structure and materials that can withstand the added mass of EVs, functionalized polymers to enhance wet grip and handling and more.
The P Zero that was designed for the Hyundai IONIQ 5 also features Pirelli’s Noice Cancelling System technology, which reduces noise levels inside the car via use of sound-dampening material.
“When developing this tire, Pirelli engineers paid special attention to driving dynamics,” according to Pirelli officials.
“They carefully refined every detail of the tire, including tread design and construction. They optimized the groove depth and tread block dimensions to improve traction and stability and provide excellent grip on different surfaces. They also precisely tuned the stiffness of the tire for a responsive and controlled driving experience, both on the track and on normal roads.”
