Continental Automotive Systems Inc. has released its Active Grille Shutters for popular Ford and Chrysler models including Chrysler 200, Ford Focus, Escape, Mustang, Explorer, F150, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
The Active Grille Shutters (AGS) are designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and moderate engine cooling. During warm-up, the shutters remain closed allowing the engine to heat up more quickly.
At low driving speeds, the AGS shutters open allowing air to pass through the radiator and cool the engine off. At higher speeds, the movement of air around the radiator is sufficient to maintain cooling without direct flow of air through the shutters, according to Continental officials.
