Sun Auto Tire Continues Expansion

Sun Auto Tire & Service Inc. has opened a new Plaza Tire Service store in Owensboro, Ky.

The Mesa, Ariz.-based chain, which is owned by private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners, also has acquired two Checkpoint Tire & Service stores in Illinois.

Sun Auto Tire & Service has more than 575 locations, making it one of the five largest tire dealerships in the U.S., according to the 2025 MTD 100.

The new Owensboro store is the eighth Sun Auto Tire & Service Plaza Tire location in Kentucky. The chain also has 15 locations in Illinois.
