Mavis Tire Express Services Corp., the largest tire dealership in the U.S., has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack.

Owned by Icahn Enterprises, Pep Boys has nearly 800 locations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

The acquisition, which is expected to close in the coming months, will boost Mavis Tire’s total number of locations to more than 4,000 and is the next in a long line of major purchases made by the White Plains, N.Y.-based company, which is owned by BayPine LP, TSG Consumer Partners and co-CEOs David and Stephen Sorbaro.

Last summer, Mavis acquired 1,200 Midas locations from TBC Corp., giving the dealership more than 3,600 locations.

Three years ago, Mavis completed its acquisition of 595 National Tire & Battery and Tire Kingdom stores from TBC Corp., signaling TBC’s exit from the company-owned retail tire channel.

Icahn acquired Pep Boys in 2016.

"Today's announcement marks a significant milestone as Mavis continues to execute its growth strategy," says Mavis co-CEO David Sorbaro. "Pep Boys is one of the most well-respected names in the automotive aftermarket and we look forward to welcoming it into the Mavis family of brands.

"Pep Boys brings a loyal customer base, deep-rooted market presence across the United States and a distribution network that will meaningfully enhance our supply chain nationwide.

"Together, we will create a stronger, more geographically diverse platform with the scale and capabilities to provide dependable service to even more customers and create meaningful opportunities for employees," says Sorbaro.

"We have tremendous respect for what the Pep Boys team has built and we look forward to partnering with them to drive their continued success.”
