Discount Tire Lists Long-Lifespan Tires
Discount Tire's Treadwell tool has identified tires for light truck and SUV drivers that exceed a 70,000-mile tire lifespan in normal driving conditions.
"Each tire ... outperforms its manufacturer warranty by more than 10,000 miles, based on Treadwell tire life data," say Discount Tire officials. "For truck and SUV drivers, comparing tire options based on real-world tire mileage data can help a driver choose the best tires for their vehicle."
Discount Tire officials say each tire with a listed limited treadwear warranty also outperforms its manufacturer warranty by more than 10,000 miles.
The Michelin Defender LTX Platinum topped the list, boasting a median lifespan of 104,851 miles. The rest are in descending order:
- Falken WildPeak A/T4W (84,850 miles)
- Michelin Defender LTX MS/2 (77,649 miles)
- Falken WildPeak R/T01 (76,420 miles)
- BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 (75,714 miles)
- Michelin Agilis CrossClimate DT (74,568 miles)
- Michelin LTX A/T 2 (74,245 miles)
- Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme (72,975 miles)
- Nitto Recon Grappler A/T (72,802 miles)
- Hankook Dynapro AT2 RF11 (70,175 miles)
Research was conducted at Discount Tire's Treadwell Research Park in Texas.
"Tire lifespan data aggregated by Discount Tire in Treadwell considers drivers who properly maintain their tires, including regular tire rotations and wheel alignments, to help maximize the lifespan of a tire's tread," say Discount Tire officials.
"Results use a median value for tire lifespan collected to 2/32-inch tread, which is generally considered — and in some states, mandated as a legal standard — the minimum viable tread depth for tires. Actual results may vary for an individual based on their specific driving location and habits, such as preference for regular highway or all-terrain driving.
"Discount Tire developed Treadwell using decades of data and independent testing to deliver a hassle-free tool giving drivers personalized tire recommendations based on where they drive, what vehicle they drive and how they prefer to drive. More than 20 million people used Treadwell online and in stores in the last year."
